Why we moved from plastic to glass and why you should too

Originally we used a plastic bottle for eyewake, however after researching the ecological impact of using this material we decided to make a change. This blog should hopefully clarify why you should move to glass where possible and why glass is more environmentally friendly than plastic.

We know that as a brand, one of the reasons we stand out is because of our moral values. For every eyewake product sold, a donation is made to Women’s Aid. This reflects our value of giving back to the most vulnerable people in society.

We love that we are promoting a great human cause, but we knew that we could do more to promote environmental causes. Of course, the two go hand-in-hand, environmental issues will unavoidably become human issues.

The increased use in disposable plastics is only increasing the adverse effects of global warming. We have seen fantastic initiatives in recent years, such as charging for plastic carrier bags (in the UK) and discussions of prohibiting plastic straws. These acts go a surprisingly long way in reducing the amount of plastic waste.

To produce a plastic container rather than the equivalent sized glass container uses twice as much abiotic material (primarily fossil fuels!), 17 times more water AND produces 5 times the amount of greenhouse gas emissions![1]

We owe it to the future generations to leave them a planet as beautiful and fruitful as the one on which we live today. Without taking action to prevent Climate Change, we are destined to leave them a world wrought with rising sea levels, scarcity of land and extreme weather conditions.
